The book is filled with fragrant and flavourful recipes that have been in the family for generations and include rice dishes, dumplings, curries, meats, Afghan pastas, chutneys and pickles, soups and breads, drinks, and desserts. Some are everyday meals, some are special dishes to celebrate important occasions. Each recipe has a story to tell.

Parwana is a cookbook, but it’s more than that, it tells one Afgan family’s story of a region long afflicted by war but with much more at its heart. This book is written by Durkhanai Auybi and tells how her parents fled Afghanistan, with their young children in 1985.
The family opened their Adelaide restaurant Parwana in 2009 as a way to share their culture through traditional recipes and generous hospitality, to demonstrate a truer picture of the war-torn country they left behind.
